A friend of mine recommended a book she picked up by accident, getting the author’s name confused with something she read in the past. She told me she absolutely loved the book, and that she read the first three books of the series in about half a week. So now I’ve read the first book, Trading in Danger by Elizabeth Moon, and I loved it.

After a life changing disaster, Kylara (love that name, btw) had to rebuild her life starting out by captaining a (space)ship in her family’s shipping business. I don’t want to give away spoilers, but let’s just say her first trip was anything but a milk run.

The writing is fairly fast paced (not quite as much as Weis), and has just enough detail to add flavor without bogging it down. The excitement is intense, but rather than keeping me on the edge of my seat for the whole read, it was paced out, giving the story a nice rhythm. I can’t wait to read book two!
