Monsters become NPCs

I've had various monsters become NPCs, where clicking them brings me next to the them to chat (but the chat window doesn't pop) and the monster wouldn't attack me either.

The strangest happened yesterday where a named Boss had a ! over his head, like the NPCs do when you've completed a quest. Clicking him would take me to him as if to chat, and neither of us could attack the other.

Unfortunately I don't have a save game; exiting the game and restarting fixed the boss.

That is not a bug. Those particular monsters (with ! and ? above them) should be treated like any other NPC quest givers. (The text usually talks about how some other type of monster is being offensive, so please kill X of them for a reward.)

That may be true for some monsters/quests, but that's not what happened in my situation.

My quest from Din was to kill the named boss. When I found him, he had the ! over his head and there was no text/popup when I "spoke" with him. I saved & exited the game, re-entered next to the boss, and he was aggro / I killed him and the quest was successfully completed.

I've actually gotten this one once as well, back in the beta actually, but I thought it was resolved by a patch. My circumstances were the same as well; the enemy was a boss, was named by a quest to be killed and was friendly to me and had a quest icon over his head. Upon reloading the game he was hostile again.
