Horror is the Gateway
I came to writing through horror in my youngling days (read a lot of Steven King, Ruby Jean Jenson, Robert McCammon). As time progressed I was drawn to survivalist science fiction (Mad Max), which is what Vampire Planet, the novel I'm finishing this year, is about (Vampire crash lands on an uninhabited planet and is trapped with what she most fears, being called out and killed by the small group of survivors.).
In a nutshell, I like horror. Even so, I love the brothers three (science fiction, fantasy and horror). When I free write, I tend to lean toward dark science fiction. I don't write hard science fiction at all. I think anything I write will have two elements, adventure and darkness. It can be seen in the Depths of Peril stuff, especially the story that won a contest, "Double Edge."
