Post Kickstarter?

Well, with the Kickstarter craze going on right now, what does Soldak think about using Kickstarter to start funding its games?

We've talked about kickstarter, and I think Shadow's general thoughts on Soldak using it was something like, "Not now." Although I guess it's a good way to vote on what you want next if no project was started until the fund was met. It's kind of like what editors do to professional writers who submit... I forget the term... story ideas. The editor picks what book the author will actually start writing next.

I actually don't want that kind of yoke as a writer.

I've known about Kickstarter for a while now and I've been watching the Double Fine and Wasteland 2 Kickstarter pages.

For well known industry people that don't want a publisher contract or can't get one and can build a game for fairly modest budget, Kickstarter seems to work really well. For everyone else, I'm not so sure.

For how Soldak works right now it wouldn't really help. However, if we decided to hire a bunch of full time time and couldn't actually afford it, Kickstarter would become a more interesting option. I think this is why the Dead State guys are now considering Kickstarter.
