Default Idea: Ancient Artifacts

Ancient Artifacts are special items that do nothing for the player. Maybe they give races special powers, or maybe they just have symbolic value. Either way, races REALLY want them, and will do all manner of underhanded stuff to get them.

Some artifacts are race-specific. The Brunt don't care as much about the Shadow artifact as the Shadow, but maybe they're holding onto it anyway. But if they are, they'd better watch their backs.

Artifacts are located on specific planets. Sometimes those planets will be occupied, and sometimes they're abandoned. Just building a scanner to locate an artifact can be a quest of its own.

Artifacts, especially race-specific ones, have HUGE value on the diplomacy/trade screen.

Races can give quests to obtain artifacts. The player might attack a planet or try and steal it through espionage. I guess he could also use diplomacy. After obtaining the artifact, the player can either turn in the quest OR go through the trade screen (failing the quest and losing the big relation/exp bonus, but gaining trade leverage).

A civil war might result in a renegade stealing the artifact and flying away. A race might use a freighter to transport the artifact to a safer planet, giving the player a quest to escort it (IF they feel they can trust the Drox).

Great idea! Another sweet quest idea that could be hard but would be worth it for the high relation gain you get. Plus it would break the questing mold too.

Yeah, I got the idea when brainstorming this megathread, and it seemed like there was enough here to make a whole thread out of.
