protect the planet

I have tried a couple of the "protect the planet until reinforcements arrive" quests. The last time I tried it, I waited for quite some time before giving up on it.

In the latest one I have been waiting 15 real life minutes. No reinforcements to be seen anywhere. Just me sitting at the planet with nothing happening for the entire time.

I've a feeling this is pretty well known. But, maybe it wouldn't hurt to mention it.

By the way, I tried to search the forums for "protect the planet" to see if this has been addressed before. Here's what the search told me:

I tested it out with searches for "flying over the hill" and "the little brown dog jumped over the flying gray goat" and was told the same thing in each case.

That's because "the" is shorter than 4 letters, so you must instead search for "protect planet" and omit the three letter word.

Heh. I see. It's just the way the search is geared. Okay.

You can talk to the planet and click the status button to get some data on when they will build their first ship.

I checked that a couple of times. The first time it read :33, a few minutes later it read :39. You sure the races don't have an option to reset that timer for any particular reason? Maybe if they colonize a different planet in the meantime?

Even then, I'd rather not wait 30 or even 15 minutes just to be able to move on.

BTW, the colony quests that demand an open heavy slot are ones I just can't do. My three heavy slots are taken by vital equipment. Couldn't the colony package take up an open cargo bay slot instead? That way it requires you to be prepared, but not cripple yourself.

AFAIR they require medium slot not heavy, and cargo bay isn't good idea IMHO because Cargo Bays are extremely rare to buy or find, so you must sacrifice inventory slots which is not nice if you're already keeping components which you want to try but don't have enough max power load to do that.

Some of those quests require medium slots, some heavy slots. I have yet to see one requiring a light slot.

All you'd have to do is remove a cargo bay and keep it in inventory while the cargo bay slot is taken by the colony package. A mild inconvenience but not crippling.

That number is pretty much useless because when the timer reaches zero, usually no ship is built ... (the amount of minerals increases, and the timer starts at 1:00 again ... repeat this about 20 times and suddenly, they finally build the ship ...)

I've stopped accepting protect quests because they are so boring.

Just as a note to further development;

I did another protect the planet mission. It was for the humans and didn't take too long this time.

This is only speculation, but maybe it depends on the race.
