Suggestion: How about an event (maybe a possible result of exploring an anomaly) that resets the fog of war for the current system? It could be something like "Electromagnetic interference from the anomaly resets your guidance system."

Oh, crickey, no.

I'm one of those OCD/ADD types who feels they need to uncover every inch of the maps just for the sake of karma and prosperity. This would indeed throw me (and some others here I'm reading about, as well) into a cyclic redundancy loop for sure. But...

...this would synergise nicely with a suggestion I had for a Quest to reveal entire maps for reward. Right now, it's a huge time sink with no reward whatsoever to reveal maps completely. Toss in the Quest and I'll take the map blanker as a token counter-balance measure.

Seriously this is the last thing I want to see. Fog of war is much better than it was, especially with planets showing up in your mini-map ahead of time, but it's still a pain.

Ahhhhh! NO!

Unless it's balanced by the opposite "Mysterious datafile containing full map of system appears...."

What if you could trade for or otherwise obtain location info for all of a race's planets? This would clear the fog of war around those planets.

It would certainly help. "We need your help desperately! And quick! But you have to fumble your way around trying to figure out where..." -- it doesn't wash.

At the very least, friendlies should reveal the planet(s) that are the targets of the mission, or they could have those faboo markers on the system map like a swarm of bugs or such.... Groping around in the dark when the people sending you on a mission know darned well where they're asking you to go -- that's bad management of Operative resources. Not telling us where to go makes it seem like they really don't want/need our help as much as they say they do Like maybe they just want to keep us busy and out of their hair.

"Oh, no -- it's one of those guys. I wish they'd gone the way of the Drox! I know: send them on some stupid scavenger hunt -- it will take them a year or two to finish, and we can go on with our corrupt politicking and figure out how to take over the universe! I'll ask them to fetch me a box of tissues, 3 kittens and a tire iron from all different areas of the universe that they haven't seen yet..."

I played late last night on 0.911 so comments are here:

1) I started a level 1 brand-new dryad character, and happened to spawn next to the humans, and the first thing out of their quest log was a couple of quests somewhere I'd never been, had no idea where to find, etc. And I needed several levels before I could do it even when I finally found the gate... That could be very frustrating for a new player.

2) said dryad character started with a race-specific component that's supposed to regen shields etc. but the regen bonus was +0 +0, and the component's power cost was +10 load....so it cost power, and did nothing.... pretty frustrating.

That's it so far -- onward & upward to the next patch!

It's the alternate (Cyan Clan) Helic attack. Deliberately running into one did a massive 16 damage to my ship.
