Default Crew Life and Death... and Healing?

My buddy and I have been playing Drox for almost a month. Today, suddenly his ship lost about 12 points of statistics and practically all of his equipment ceased to work.

After about a half hour of cursing and complaining on his part we discovered that two of his crew members had died.

There is no mention (except a casual one that says don't play hardcore with crew) of just exactly what harms crew... how we can keep it from happening... or, more important, how we can heal wounded crew!!!

The casual mention states that you can pay crew to heal... doesn't work!

Can we resurrect dead crew?

Should we take them off duty and put them back in the ship's cargo hold to heal?

Help!!!

You can heal crew at any friendly planet the same way you can repair components.

In case it's confusing: you pay to heal crew -- you don't pay the crew member to heal them. Go to the Trade screen at your nearest friendly planet, and use the repair icon(s) at the bottom of the merchant screen.

I don't know whether that brings them back from death in hardcore, and Shadow didn't say...

In hardcore, crew death is permanent.

That seems to me to be too harsh. It makes it such that not only can you not afford to die, you can't even afford to get hurt or your crew will die, making you unable to use your equipment. Given the huge role of crew in the game, I think it makes sense to allow reviving them.

One thing I'd suggested is they get hurt (incapacitated - no bonus, shattered glass shows up) at [durability] damage, and they die at negative [durability] damage.

Oh, and maybe instead of just shattered glass (broken part) maybe an additional icon for "hurt crew member" on the right?
