unstable projectiles question

skill description says: chance that projectile will explode and deal x% of original damage as explosion damage.

will this skill work with plasma weapons?
if so, will the thermal damage of my plasma weapons be converted to x% explosion damage?

It should. The plasma projectile itself will still do thermal damage. If the explosion is triggered that will do explosion damage.
