Default Drox beta patch 0.919

Beta Patch 0.919 of Drox Operative is available over on the Drox Operative patch page. Changes can be read here. This patch makes the races more distinct and fixes a bunch of small things.

Testing start!

Thanks for the patch.

And a little hint from me, more periodic diplomate quests for the races maybe not the aggressivly(maybe for the agressiv races, demand the other races for money?), i have befor the new patch in 5 games only 1 or 2 dipolmativ quests. Sure it's based on luck but... gives a way that we can have more diplomativ quests at least for the dryads they love peace i think.

In the name of peace!

Edit: Ok instantly in the new sector only 2 races(from 6 races) in the startsystem. Your work is funktionaly or... i have luck. xD

Edit˛: I have seen many Diplomateships flying around but if they arrive a planet and "disappear" nothing happent. Sometimes i see freigthers and it' shows how many credits they are making but by the diplomate-ships it shows nothing. ^.^

Yeah a bubbletext of "+4.5 relations" or something would be nice.

Ok, my testing & thanks for the patch! :

1) Request: Gifts of tech/planets should change relationships accordingly -- probably in accordance for what they would have paid for said tech/planet. I don't see a relationship change bubble overhead....

2) Fix Message: "The planet X (race) needs protection!" -- in which system?

3) Why can't I spread rumors about Drox Operatives on the planets? The only option to improve relations is to bribe/gift? See also #1

4) Buggy? Utopians used to have a colony on Pher, a long time ago -- they lost the colony and haven't tried to regain it in forever… they're at 2 planets for a LOOOOONG time… (30th level challenge) It's like a colony got destroyed and they forgot the planet was still there? Do planets ever heal? I know ANOTHER race might colonize the planet, but it seems like the same race is reluctant to?

5) Expansionist definitely worked for Lithosoid (8 planets - yay!). Not sure about Human (2 planets). Started with home planet only…Lith & Humans were in my starting system. (normal non-challenge game) So I would think it should have been a space-race between them. I think the Liths have a breeding bonus, though and can inhabit a wider variety of climates -- but I gifted the Humans with terran & paradise planet info -- they should have been on that like a mouse on peanut butter....

6) Bug? Clutter?: Why do I kill one monster and get 4 +Relations notices for the race? Is it because I'm next to multiple planets? Or something else? Can the notices be consolidated when the bonuses are all for the same kill & from the same race? It gets noisy.

I will have to test more to see whether I can notice other changes....

I think the anti-flash fix is working. My last 2 races were at war and equally matched. I saw great fleets zooming back and forth, with no wormhole flashes.

It's probably the planet and multiple ships.

From what I've seen so far...

- fixed a race starting position issue (may or may not spread them out more)

This worked. Just had to say it. Have just tried two sectors thus far, but the difference is obvious.

Also, call me crazy, but are the races just more involved with each other now? Basically, I wound up in a triple alliance with myself, Dryad and Hive. Humans and Fringe weren't too involved with each other until this triple alliance came into being. Next thing you know, Fringe and Human relations are going up with each other and they form an alliance. Never saw anything like it before this patch. When Hive declared war on Fringe, you can guess what happened. It was like World War II. They did it all without any manipulation from me.

Before everyone seemed to just sit around until they got tired of each other and went to war. Maybe it was due to how they all started in the same system before. Maybe they're giving their diplomacy ships better escorts now.

Whatever it is, it's working. Things are really becoming interesting now.

A normaly normal little monster? Or an big huge angry monster? I think i have seen that veteran and higher enemys give more relationpoints.

And now i have a new little problem. The economieloss, i play actually a normal map and with 6 races, i dont have found all races aaaaaaand my economieloss stady raise. Now i have no idea what can i do against it and i have no idea what exactly go's into the economieloss. Repaircosts? Buying new component's? "over-time-raise"? And why have the drox guild the issue? I hace gaind 4k in the last half hour. But in the eye's of the guild i make negativ money?

Edit: Ok forget about the economie... i didnt saw the - in front of the number. xD

A normal monster attacking a planet. Not named/elite/etc.

Above my ship it would say something like:

+0.4 Relationship killing an enemy (Utopian)
+0.4 Relationship killing an enemy (Utopian)
+0.2 Relationship killing an enemy (Utopian)
+0.2 Relationship killing an enemy (Utopian)

Probably 2 planets + 2 ships each giving individual bonuses.

Why couldn't it say:

+1.2 Relationship killing an enemy (Utopian)

Only because it's less noisy. Imagine if I bombed a few monsters. It gets VERY noisy fast. If each monster gave only one totaled bonus, at least there would be only 1 line per monster killed. The long list of bonus notifications is nice from an arcade "Wow look what I did" standpoint, but becomes momentary clutter/distraction on the screen when you're in the middle of a big battle.

Also, say one race really pissed off all the other races in the challenge with ALL the races? I kill several of their ships, I could get a few dozen messages: one from each race...for each ship...and for the planet(s) and ship(s) I'm near..... wowza.

@Crisses: Oh ehm... yes sorry i have not seen the "notices" in your sentences. But i give you right, it's very screenfilling with all the notices and greetings for killing enemys.

Edit: Funny thing, after a wile playing i see already the notices from diplomatships that they raise the relationship.

Edit˛: I found a little bug. It's possible to decline a colonize-job, sell the colonizationmodul and take the colonize-job again and get a brandnew colonizemodul. Free money for everyone? xD

Default Armor Bug

I'm playing Fringe. I've installed Excellent Light Plating (Medium, Normal, requires 7 struct). My Structural attribute is 7. Armor Plating reads as 0/60. Repair Structure at planet doesn't change it from 0/60.

The latest patch is very good. Have a few suggestions I'd like to make...

- Map screen markers

Instead of right-clicking to leave a marker, how about using the number keys to leave different types (or colors) of markers? I use map markers to mark locations of recharge stations. But, sometimes I want to leave a marker for a different reason.

- Map screen (and jump gates)

How about a little something in the solar system name to indicate you've got an active jump gate in that system?
Something like "> Hydrak" or the like.

- Diplomatic messages

Sometimes races send you a message. It's not a decision to make. Only option is to read it and click Done. How about making it so that hitting the R key is the same as clicking the Done button? Only if it's one of these simple messages. Not a big deal, of course, but being able to just tap the R key twice makes for smoother game flow. Especially when there are wars going on and the AI races frequently want to chatter at you.

- Unstable Wormholes

My honest feeling is that there's a little bit too many of these. Even with all the new effects added to anomalies, it still feels like "unstable wormhole" is what I get almost half the time. I'm to the point where I don't touch anomalies unless I have absolutely nothing else to do.

Shadow, do you remember the shrines from Diablo 1? Remember how many players simply stopped examining shrines because of all the negative effects? That's how I feel about anomalies.

If I'm busy doing something specific (which is most of the time) then the last thing I want is to have to spend 20 minutes zipping about, fighting for my life in some far away sector... all for the reward of being allowed to continue to what I was doing.

Then we have those wormhole effects that are on screen and not part of anomalies. I take great pains to avoid them, but it doesn't always help. Sometimes, all I have to do is just look at one of those things and suddenly I'm in some far away sector, grumbling as I search for the warp gate so I can get back to what I was doing.

Sometimes, I swear I've been sucked into an unstable wormhole when I was just flying over empty space. Very rare when that happens. Each time, I was flying at top 200 speed, so I'm not exactly sure what caused it.

Is it possible to get an unstable wormhole when examining a derelict ship or space junk? I can't remember for sure, but I think it's happened a couple of times. If so, then it's ridiculous.

- Alternative to unstable wormholes

If you're looking for a way to aid/encourage exploration, then why not use something different like, "you found part of an ancient galactic map, showing you the location of X solar system" - Something along those lines. Doesn't reveal fog of war in the solar system itself, except for showing a planet or two (just enough to try and catch one's interest). Maybe make it something that can happen only a certain amount of times, depending on the # of solar systems in the sector. Could also be a tool to use, say if a player has been going for quite a while yet still has some solar systems they missed. "Oh hey, look at that."
