Default Attack/Defense Values

The tooltip says attack increases chances of hitting and defense decreases the chance of getting hit.
Is there something more to it?

I have like 98% chance of hitting a lvl 27 ship with an attack value of 1075.
Is there any purpose to go for more attack or should i go for other values instead?

I'm not sure how often this has been tried elsewhere but one way to avoid obsolete stats is to have a function where once a hit/dodge chance caps out at a 100% value, that increasing helm/computer would provide a small amount of additional damage/resistance as well. It'd still be better to specialize in other stats unless you wanted a better engine or computer-based component, but the token benefit helps players feel that they're gaining something as least. I feel it's a bit similar to how people are chomping at the bit for more steady rewards as they invest in command (love the one about fighter stats getting a boost with this).

for the amount of effort / installed computer components to get the very high stats i think - that any attack over 95% should come with a bonus critical hit boost .... if it dosn't already? like a built in deadly aim feature - not as powerful as a seperate component but a help along the way..?

and defense - should you ever manage to get it so very very low i dont know what the special bonus could be - perhaps built in beam reflection??

I really like the idea of computers adding to critical hit, especially at higher ratings.

Increased crit hit damage sounds like a good idea.
And for defense lesser chance of getting hit by a crit?
