Default Drox beta patch 0.921

Beta Patch 0.921 of Drox Operative is available over on the Drox Operative patch page. Changes can be read here. This patch adds some filtering control over event messages, adds a borderless windowed mode, and as usual fixes a bunch of small things.

Today, just bugs....I think...

1) Carrier builds may "hate" me for reporting this but right now you can load more than 5 fighters by swapping fighter bays in the same slot and loading up 5 more fighters. I thought this behaved differently before...

So you can keep additional bays in inventory, swap different fighter types, and end up with 10+ fighters while only one fighter bay is installed.

2) AI says "Welcome to Human Space" when they greet you? Have they checked their blood type?

3) Comets etc. don't show on mini-map radar?

4) Backlash redirect missile effect -- I don't think this shows as an icon "effect" indicator on their target OR on their own ship....

5) Races can have 2 colonize quests from & to the same planets -- one medium & one heavy cargo bay....

I've met three races and they haven't met each other. One of them just declared war on me. Reason? Treatment of enemies. How can they be enemies if they've never met?

This was kind of funny. The Human planet (yes, just one) had about twelve different problems that required an item. Guess who was selling all twelve items? The humans. Easiest relation boost I've run across.

Where are we in the beta process? Half done? Two-thirds done? Enjoying the game.

The fighter stacking exploit (or trait?) was discussed in an older post...which i found just as i finished typing for a new thread about it yesterday argh.

http://www.soldak.com/forums/showthr...ighter+exploit

Some players who got to higher levels (25-35+?) reported that some advanced weapons quickly shred these player fighter armadas. So perhaps it is by design that fighters are good early-mid weapon choices (I'm at lvl 23 and they still rule except when some area effect trap triggers)...then run into a counter or two.

This reminds me of the game Fate, where one successful build was high Charm skill and summoning. And the counter: out there were a random bosses that had a spell that deleted *all* summons in a single cast. My character had to run away and then arm/buff up the alternative weapon (like a bow).etc. Oops getting off topic.

Default Achievement bug

Nothing major, but it looks like the four achievements for damage done at once are out of order.

Currently they look like this:
Smasher 500 damage at once
Crusher 2,000 damage at once
Demolisher 1,000 damage at once
Devastator 4,000 damage at once

my two cents on "increased cargo bay chances some more" is: no need, I found plenty of these in .0920 (at least during levels 1-28). my shared stash is almost all 10-slot cargo bays.

edit: the below scenario hasn't happened as often in the next few hours of game play (maybe once or twice)...so maybe we can chalk this up to the randomizer gods...

level 28 normal game - getting trashed by neutral ship's Self Destruct ... is this just an aspect of the higher level or was an increased incidence of "paper ships that go boom" added to mix? If it isn't Self-destruct, then SOMETHING goes boom...and these aren't even the ships of major races....

I've suffered "da boom" from a neutral ship four times in one star system after starting a new universe instance with the new patch and begun exploring the next star system...causing me to delay game progress while I replenished my squadron. i actually (gasp) had to use a shield, armor, and energy "potions" as I ran away. It was "a shameful display!" (Total War Shogun 2 game reference). ...is this one of the game mechanics that makes me stop using squadrons so much in the middle game?

on the self-destruct: if a ship is near-death...THEN the captain might press the button. i'm whining about a self-destruct that activates ONLY when the ship is completely destroyed. seems "illogical" to harm both allies and friends. well ok if the neutrals want to keep promoting Captain Kamikaze...fine.

for future game mechanic: add a red alert tone/symbol and highlight the ship about to go boom. Give friends and allies (and the player because he's so special) a chance to dodge/minimize the damage. ...and *if* a player has a computer component mounted, highlight ships that have the self-destruct component in the first place?

never used chaff before so don't know if this is a bug introduced with the new version or not:

while i have a few fighters deployed, i dropped one chaff...it lingers for a moment then disappears. *however* there is still a chaff listed (and seemingly active) on the left side where the escorts are listed along with the fighters.

dropping another chaff results in two chaff listed as "active escorts"

Default Unclaimed monsters

The Humans inhabited one sector and they had a couple dozen quests for the sector next door. There were a couple of fleets, a gate, a listening post, a communications array, unique monsters and uprisings. I picked up about 9 quests but got distracted. The Human planet was destroyed and all the quests failed.

The thing is, all of the monsters and gates are still there. If I go in and clean up the place, I'll get no reward since nobody has the quests. Could somebody (Drox High Command?) take over the quests? This would be the quests for unique monsters and gates and such (monsters for 'recruit crew member' quests would just become unique monsters). Quests for uprisings, 'collect X monster tails' and planetary problems would disappear. The quests could show up as ? and ! on the Drox Operative icon.

Legion took over the Human planet and Talon later colonized the system next door. Maybe one of those races could take over the remaining quests from Drox High Command (or whoever).

It's annoying to kill a named monster and get no reward.

Have to agree with Roswitha said here. At least in part. I mean, sure, you could say it was the player's fault because we should know by now that if a planet dies, so do the quests you got there. But, the problem is it just feels like many quests in Drox fail way too easily, even if you get on them right away.

I don't quite agree with having Drox Command pick up the quests, because it doesn't fit. Such things don't affect Drox Command directly, so it's not their concern.

Suggest changing many quests from planet specific to race specific, because even if they lose their last planet in a solar system, it doesn't change the fact that they still want that solar system for themselves. Once you complete such a quest for them, they simply jump on the opportunity to send a colony ship.
