Default What do earthquakes do?

I know that, for instance, ice machines drop cold traps around the level. But how big an issue is an earthquake machine? As near as I can tell, it just causes the ground to shake from time to time. Is there adverse effect?

An earthquake causes a small area to "shake". Anything within that area will take damage. If the earthquake happens underground, then there's a chance it will cause a cave-in as well.

Thanks, joku. But it must not do much damage. I've watched my health while I'm standing on the area that has the "shaking earth" animation, and it didn't seem to hurt too much, if at all. I guess I'll just put earthquake machines lower on the list of things to take care of.

FYI they were a big deal in Din's Curse since they caused cave-ins which were lethal.

If you are above ground, there isn't currently any danger. If you are below ground, big rocks might fall on your head.
