I present my fifth level 100: Nimrod the Mighty Hunter. Not quite as mighty as he'll be once Shock Bolt is fixed so it can crush, deep wound and proc Ice Storm from Fryse's White Ring though. He's got roughly 100% crit, crush and deep wounds, as I am fond of doing with my characters, so when Shock Bolt is fixed I will be a happy hunter indeed. The hunter is the class I played least in WoW, I only got into the teens on a hunter. I would have liked to play one more, but that game sucks enough out of you playing 4 max level characters. I always wished I could help people with their hunters, and now I can .

Well nobear, it looks like your almost out of full classes to play. I guess at the rate your going, shadow will have to double his efforts in order to keep up with your pace

Something i thought id add. It seems like the ranger was your fastest character. Was that because you went so far up with world lvl or because the ranger is just that awesome. Im guessing the first.

I will say this though, you are on to something with taking extremely high world levels. Ive been taking levels 8+ higher than my own and leveling very fast. When a wiki is made thats gotta be mentioned as i think it will save people a lot of time. Plus it makes the game tougher which is how it should be.

Yup, most definitely it should be part of the wiki. And it was indeed because of playing so far above my level. If I had done that all along with my Wizard, and used Shatter as my main attack throughout, I would have leveled her faster than the Ranger. Abom says he levels some Frost Mage based characters in 12 hours, and with the Ranger I took over 24. He plays at the absolute maximum level allowed at any time, but not all classes are that OP.

Nobear,

I was wondering why you focused on Shock Bolt rather than Serrated Arrow for the primary method of dealing damage with your ranger. Having played a ranger myself (albeit only up to level 30), it seems like the most effective attack for a ranger. Is there a reason why you decided not to use it with Nimrod?

I know, I love that bow . I couldn't cap my hit types without it!

Arjun: yes. First, with roughly 100% passive crit, crush and deep wounds, those parts of Serrated Arrow would do nothing for me. Then you're comparing Serrated Arrow's 15% damage per level to Shock Bolt's 20%. Add to that the very nice stun chance of Shocking Bolt, and that's why it's my favorite.

Even though crush, deep wounds, and the Ice Storm proc from Fryse's White Ring are currently not working with Shock Bolt, it's still my favorite, although I'm putting this character away until Shadow fixes that.

The stun chance alone is invaluable. First, net trap is great vs melee, but it doesn't silence casters, whereas the Shock Bolt stun does. Second, since the three abovementioned damage boosts are currently broken on Shock Bolt, occasionally net trap will wear off by the time I'm done clearing the mobs around a boss and am spamming Shock Bolt on the boss. With the boss stunned, that buys me time to finish him off or calmly aim another trap. Third, certain monsters like spiders (extremely common at level 100) can pounce you despite being netted. When they're stunned, they can't .

Very innovative. Im beginning to rethink nixing the archer class With the hunter you do get some nice benefits but you only have 1 attack other than the traps. Whereas the archer has firearrow, poison arrow, shock arrow(which is about as overpowered as the other lightning skill) and exploding arrow. Now besides exploding arrow, the rest have a nice damage boost based on your weapon. I have to think about that if i do make a ranged character. No bear, do you think any of the other attacks would be worthwhile for the archer class. I thought of using poison but fire gives a better damage boost. I'd use shock, but i always like trying routes that others havent planned.

Oh and Nobear, Im not going to spoil it but i would recommend playing the conjurer next. Especially if your a fan of the ranger. I still think that the conjurer is one of the more overpowered classes. Hard to hybrid though.

Edit-Disregard that. I didnt see you already started on the conjurer. heh.

Thanks, Nobear. That makes a great deal of sense. I suppose that Serrated Arrows makes sense at lower levels, but there's no sense keeping this skill once one has reached 100% crits and deep wounds. Do you think it would make sense to invest in Barkskin now that armor is more effective?

Exactly, serrated arrows makes sense at lower levels/gear than what I have, but even then I liked Shock Bolt for the stun. It's a matter of personal preference in that case, and both are good choices.

As for Barskin, I ran the math on what it would do for Nimrod. Obviously it would mean a rank or two less in my other skills. At rank 14 it would give 350 armor. Nimrod's current armor is 1333 (note: he has at least 3 cloth pieces and his gear is not as good as my rogue's, who has the better leather armor). That gives him 33% damage reduction. Adding 350 would bring that to 1683 armor, or 38% damage reduction.

Going from 33% to 38% DR seems significant, but really the whole point of this class is trying not to get hit. I typically only get hit by ranged monsters and spiders which can jump even after being netted (but they won't jump again for a while, so you can back up and be out of their range), and neither of these types usually hit Nimrod very hard. The only other times are when I get ambushed by stealthed/invisible monsters, or when I first enter a zone and they are already on top of me. So it comes down to whether you're having trouble being killed by physical damage dealers or not. I personally prefer to max out my damage, have a good amount of escape notice, and have good range on my net trap so things don't GET to me.

My sixth level 100: Kalaestra. At low level, I played around with each raise/summon spell except for Raise Dead, and was thoroughly unimpressed. They all require so many points just to be the same level as you, that your own damage is necessarily nerfed to pot. Furthermore, since I prefer to play some 30 levels above me, these skellies/demons that I invested so much into ended up dying at the drop of a hat anyway. Then I decided to forgo all pets and put 1 point in Thunderbolt and all the rest in Bone Shatter, and zoomed through levels ~25-75 this way. At Legendary difficulty, however, it became clear that my Bone Shatter was nowhere near as OP as my Wizard's Shatter (especially in conjunction with Frost Specialization), and I was starting to die more than I'd like. So at the suggestion of someone whose name is escaping me at the moment, but whom I'd like to credit, I tried the only pet spell I hadn't tried yet: Raise Dead.

Raise dead is the only pet spell which doesn't limit the level of your pets based on how few points you put in. You can have just 1 point and still raise any monster at the same level and rarity it was before you killed it, up to an elite. I have just enough points to raise 5 monsters. This makes gameplay quite interesting. It's like a mini leveling process with each town (since you lose pets when jumping to a new town). I start out being weak as hell and trying desperately to kill just one normal monster before I'm ganked to death. Sometimes I even start with a boss seeing me as soon as I enter the dungeon, and then I have to kill stuff and raise it continuously to keep sending cannon fodder at the boss. Eventually, if I protect my normal monsters well enough, I get to replace them gradually with Champions and then Elites. Once I have 5 elites doing +360% damage, they are ripping stuff up left and right and I'm virtually invincible. I say virtually because I have to restrain myself from going trigger happy with bone shatter and aggroing them onto me. 5 vortar raiders tear stuff up so fast my bone shatter is just a drop in the bucket anyway. It's fun seeing just how mighty your army is going to be in each town. Get a couple Elite scavengers and once they've feasted, you are set .

Since Thunderbolt's stun was turned from 100% to a measly 10%, I switched to Tornado as my crowd control spell. It's similar to the Fire Mage's Fire Maelstrom, except with a smaller area, but the chance to trigger cave-ins seems a bit lower too.

A suggestion for Thunderbolt: make each rank increase the chance to stun, in a way that scales similarly to the Hunter's Light Touch. Also reduce the damage a bit, but make Lightning Mastery affect it. Lastly, change magic crit to magic stunning blow for Lightning Mastery. It's so easy to cap your crit chance that talents to increase it are essentially useless for a smart player. Stunning blow would add to the theme of other lightning spells and grant something that the player actually can't cap.
