Default About the warriors at level 75+

I have started to become more and more frustrated by my now level 79 warrior that use to be so much fun to play even in dungeons 5 or more lvls up. This class is totally adapted to my playing style as I tend to rush into mob crowds and chop everything down with lvl 18 or 19 whirlwind. It wasn't a problem at all and I just had to take some food from time to time and would use potions when fighting bosses only.

However now I feel like an old toothless granny trying to fight her way through the trenches of WWI!!! I thing that even though it is not phenomenal I have a decent equipment and stats and the character shouldn't die like a fly against normal mobs (only 3 lvls above mine). Moreover I am constantly broke because I have to constantly feed the character and drink potions even when i'm not fighting a boss)

I get up to 3600 armor with focus, I use lvl 12 sword mastery, lvl 19 whirlwind and alternate a 1HW sword + shield with 130 or so base DPS with a 2HW sword with more than 200 base DPS and sometimes with an extra 80% damage from focus if i don't use the 100% armor bonus.

What mad me really loose hope about this character was how Nobear said he would do in dungeons 30 to 40 lvl above his lvl and be ok!!

Can someone who has experience with warriors help me out? Below are the stats when I had the 1HW sword equipped (the kill death ratio is messed up because I lost the stats when I installed the expansion, but it underlines my point and shows how rubbish this warrior is or how badly I play). I can also send a character save file if somebody wants to have a closer look.

thx

I'll preemptively say this is all IMO. This is going to be gear dependent but this is what I found for my warrior:

1. One point in whirlwind was enough for me. You can increase damage and do something useful by putting points into a weapon mastery skill. The best weapons are maces/hammers because mace mastery increases damage and crushing blow so you can save some points from the crushing blow skill. They also tend to have the highest max damage, which is all that is used for crushing blow.
2. Get crushing blow to 100% and ignore weapon DPS. Instead focus on max damage.
3. Put another point in cleave. You can alternate between this and whirlwind to remove the attack delay.
4. Only put enough points in strength to get crushing blow to 100%. You can put points into strength to equip gear and then remove those points. You want to pump vitality and dexterity for max survivability.
5. Split your points evenly between plate armor and absorb damage since they both give 5% armor.
6. Blood lust is worthless.
7. Make sure you have 100% critical. If you need another blue ring go farm one.

one.
For point number one i agree partially. What abom has said about whirlwind is true. Its usually a 1 hit wonder because it only gives you damage, no crits, crushing, deep wounds, or attack increases. What i dont agree with him on is switching to maces. Swords may not give crushing blow, but they give defense and parry which is hard to come by for a warrior and nifty for an offensive mastery as well. You can raise that sword mastery to 20 with retaking some points from whirlwind.

For point number six, i completely agree. You dont really need many points in bloodlust.

My best advice is to stay with your shield. This cannot be emphasized too much in dins just as paladins in d2. You can find a onehanded sword that will do the job of your twohanded counterparts. As warriors dont get much in defense added per dex, a shield is very needed. Put points in shield mastery too if you can.

As for why nobear is able to beat towns 30 levels higher-rangers own as they can hit before they get hit. I was not surprised when dins first came out and someone on the forums was talking about how he (at lvl1) beat a level 30 town with a hunter hybrid.

For me swords come second. My warrior has 3700 defense, which gives me 13% chance to hit. The amount of defense required to increase it further would probably eat up more points than I'd like to put into sword mastery. It would also cost additional skill points since I would need to invest more in the crushing blow skill to maintain 100%.

Very true. I think that the axe is prally my 3rd favorite because with an axe, do you really think the crit helps as much as the crushing from maces and the defense from swords. When i think of weapons in action rpgs, i think of my second favorite weapon that usually is never in rpgs-the spear. I think that that would be a great weapon to have in dins if they do another expansion pack. Add reach into the combination and you would have a interesting setup. Forget dual wield, a spear/shield spartan setup or reach based lance setup would be all i need

It's not only too easy to get from items, its power is pretty ridiculous.
The game pretty much assumes you'll be stacking it however.

Tar, first off look at my warrior by clicking the triangle next to my name on this quote:

At rank 17 it gives me just 6% chance to be hit (WITHOUT a shield!), and the stun occurs when you block an attack, so the higher your block chance, the higher your stun chance. Time your block to as close to instantly before you get hit as you can, vs bosses and packs alike, or use it when you get ambushed by ambushing broods or whatever.

2) As Abom said, max out your Dex and Vit and put the few remaining points into Str. The more Dex you have, the less you'll need a shield, because the lower % of your total defense a shield will make. Note that I do fine without one.

3) As for weapon choice, I say it comes to the individual weapon. With 100% crush, the damage of your special attacks is proportional to max weapon damage / weapon speed. With good gear, you will never need to invest an insane amount of points in Crushing Blow, so IMHO this makes little difference compared to how good the weapon is.

4) For any character, I break my skills into 4 categories:
a) Powerful primary skills that scale well with level
b) Secondary, weaker skills that are worth putting some points into but not as many
c) Cap skills, that have a cap to their effectiveness. Putting more than X points into these is either not allowed or would little or no added benefit.
d) Filler skills which do so little for me that I only use them to spend my remaining skill points.

My rule of thumb: I keep my primary skills so the next rank would cost Y points, and my secondary skills so the next rank would cost Y/2 points.

For my particular warrior, I ended up with my primary skills costing about 20 points for the next rank, and my secondary skills costing about 10. If I had focused too much more than that on any one skill, it wouldn't have let me be nearly as good in other areas.

Oldcheese's primary skills: Whirlwind, Perfect Strike, Axe Mastery, the Focus skills, Plate Armor and Block

Oldcheese's secondary skills: Arms Mastery

Oldcheese's cap skills: Bleed (to reach 100% Deep Wounds), Crushing Blow (to reach 100% Crushing Blow)

Oldcheese's filler skills: Blocking

Aside from that, feel free to join my server any time and at my earliest convenience I'll see if I can do anything more for you gearwise.

thanks for all those suggestions and tips guys, I really appreciate it.

I'll try that this week end (probably won't be able to play before that) and come back with feedback
