I also had this happen on my Win7 laptop, which wasn't happening before. No driver updates. Also ATI. It happened when there were 15-20 enemies flying around in one area. Once they were killed off frame rate returned to normal.

I'll see if I can reproduce it for any additional information.

A save game might be helpful if the problem will persist across a save/resume.

After a little more testing on the newer laptop, I don't notice any problems there.

I suspect that either it's a hardware compatibility issue, or the newer laptop being more powerful overcoming any issues. (could be wrong)

My main computer has an ATI graphics card so I'm not positive that's it (unless it's a newer card/driver issue). I also didn't change anything low level that would create any new incompatibilities.

Do people that are having issues happen to have a Bounty Hunter running around?

I'm having the lag problem. I've made no changes to hardware or software. I've been playing the second and third challenge levels.

The first time I noticed it was when I entered a system with two zombie planets close to each other. Each of them had a dozen or so ships. The screen started to flicker like crazy.

Are there bounty hunters in challenge levels? I haven't seen any.

If you have a save game available in a slow spot, could you send it to me?

There can be bounty hunters in challenge levels. If there is one, it would be an available quest somewhere.

OK, I think the slowdown started after a bounty hunter was hired, though I didn't see the bounty hunter itself.

(declared a war just to get one sent after me)

Ok, I might have fixed the slowdown issue. I should have a patch up in the next couple of hours. Hopefully those of you that were having issues will have a little bit of time to verify that the problem is fixed. If it's fixed, your old save games should no longer exhibit the problem.

I came back to try Drox after a month and a half's absence...I must say, it has grown by leaps and bounds from all of the gameplay tweaks. It's incredible actually being able to take down enemy race cruisers without using bombs and monty pythoning for 10 minutes. Also, while at first I was leery of the increase in difficulty, I later welcomed it as more than just the patchworks are a threat. And with swarms, there's actually a reason to buy missile defense; thanks Steve!
