Abandoning towns should have a downside, and right now it doesn't. Since level is the only metric for success, what's important is:

1) Survival
2) XP earned per minute

The best way to maximize #2 is to stay in a town just long enough to do any high xp quests on floor 1 or floor 2 (if you find the entrance quickly), then start over.

It also helps with survival:

Don't like fighting amorphs? Start a new town!
Don't like fighting in the presence of an earthquake machine? Start a new town!
Close to death, and used your teleport stone? Start a new town!

Thankfully it's not that hard to fix. What if instead of score = level, it was score = (level - towns abandoned). So you can still abandon a town, but every time you do it you lose a level's worth of progress in scoring.

This is a fantastic idea I have never abandoned a town in any of the games I've played and they can get quite chaotic at times if the boss monsters start building machines and recruiting helpers.

I like xp debt as a penalty for abandoning a town (Din's punishment for abandoning his cause).

OK, I'm a bit confused. Exactly which modifiers are included in the displayed DPS value on the weapon card then?

As an example, in the current HC tourney, I'm trying to decide between 2 versions of the same sword that I have found.

Which one is better out of these two? It looks like that the +to min damage and +to max damage are being calculated in a way that I don't understand... I'm confused. Both have additional magical damage per swing but the added poison damage on the first one would make it the better sword then? Considering that I'm swinging once per 0.85 seconds I assume that I need to add 2.35 to the DPS to account for poison damage, right? (Average of 2 damage per swing multiplied by roughly 1.18 swings per second)

Trust me, go with the one that has higher maximum damage (5-16). That low elemental damage on the other wont do much, and will be done over a time for the poison (20 seconds i think).

The higher physical damage leads to higher criticals in the end.
