Default Interesting fight

I was testing something today and noticed an interesting fight going on: a zombie, an orc, and a scavenger. I had a no target cheat turned on so they left me alone. Anyway I was curious what the outcome would be so I stuck around for a bit. The zombie managed to kill off the orc fairly easily. Normally the orc would raise back up in a few seconds to become an undead orc. Before that could happen though the scavenger came over and ate him. The zombie then foolishly attacked the newly larger scavenger and got decimated. The scavenger ate him also. Now there is a really big scavenger running around.

So the morale of the story, the next time there is an out break of zombies, just bring along a scavenger to clean up the mess. They will eat just about anything. What you do about huge and hungry scavengers I don't know.

Wow, your game sounds like it has some awesome ambient murder. I hope there are some good ways to avoid enemies like teleportation scrolls in angband. Or some sort of freeze wand or something. Still awesome.

Interesting. Ya know, I think there is a feature in the Wizard mode of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soupe whereby you can generate all the monsters in the game in various situations and then see how a battle could play out for educational and entertainment purposes. "Can 40 Orcs beat a Dragon?" and such.

Might such an Easter Egg mode be possible down the line at least for inclusion in Din's Curse?

That sounds so cool.

How DO you keep things like this from breaking the game, though? Seems like every dungeon level would end up being one tough monster who wipes out the rest. Are the monsters inactive until the player is nearby? Or do they have some sort of hunting territory, which they don't travel beyond (unless they're chasing the player)?

Monsters aren't always active and they tend to have their territory that they stick to. I change both of those for specific cases though when we need to (like monsters that are scouting the town).

Sharp expressed my concern!

Now, for a suggestion ;]

Having a beastmaster-esq class/tree would be awesome.
Especially if there are more monsters that interact deeply.
