Default More Mac

Well the Mac version of Depths of Peril is finally done. For some reason I forgot how exhausting it is releasing a game. While in the final phases of testing, I tend to go back and forth between nothing to do and being bored and intense activity when I find out about a bug. This yo yo effect is pretty tiring. Then once I release the game, I'm all tense waiting to see if the world is going to end or in reality if any major bugs slipped through. It's also a bit tense waiting to see whether or not a product is going to start off selling well or not.

Luckily, most of those phases are over now. The Mac version is done and seems to be selling pretty well. It's actually doing better than the Windows version did at the beginning. There also doesn't seem to be any major outstanding bugs.

Now we are just down to attracting enough gamers to play and buy the game.

This is actually where you guys and gals can help me out. There is already another thread where I ask about Mac demos, but I'll ask again here. For those of you that have Macs, where do you find game demos? Also, where do you read reviews for Mac games? I've only had a Mac for a couple months now, so I really don't know these things. I've gotten the demo on a couple Mac specific places and a bunch of Mac sites seem to have picked up the news of the release, but I need to spread the word better.

At the risk of repeating what is in the other post...

I get most of my demos at
www.macgamefiles.com
which is a sister site of www.insidemacgames.com
which is a good place to send a press release letting them know about your game.

I also get some demos at:
http://www.apple.com/games/demos/

Both of these sites also host patches for Mac games.

Then there is the versiontracker.com Mac OS X site, macupdate.com, and macgames.com.

MacWorld.com does reviews, as does Applelinks.com and InsideMacGames.com, among other places.

Ok, I'm starting to get a decent list of Mac demo places. I still need more places that do reviews for Mac games though.

Another question, who publishes games in the Mac market? I know about Aspyr and that is about it.

There are a lot of small companies, many of which port games to the Mac, and some which create games. Just off the top of my head:

MacJoy
Red Marble Games
Spiderweb Software
Winterwolves
Pangeasoft
Macsoft

or did you mean publishes boxed editions for stores?

Places where game reviews can be found:
Apple has his own game website. (DoP is already listed) But they don't really "review" the game, just advertise them.
Macworld magazine writes reviews
You already know IMG

Game publishers/developers:

Some Big names:
MacSoft Is a big one.
EA has some titles. (Is there any platform they don't? )
You already know Aspyr.
Feral Interactive.
And, of course, Blizzard Entertainment has a very good name in the mac community, for consistently releasing mac and windows versions of their games in such a way one doesn't even notce there are two different versions. (same release dates hours and second, same patch versions, both versions on the same hybrid disk, absolutely perfect mac-win compatibility in multi-player)

Some Smaller companies are:
Pangea Software is a well known one.
Ambrosia Software has a huge name within the mac game community.
Freeverse
SpiderWeb has a dedicated mac fanbase (and a dedicated fanbase in general too)

Thanks for all of the info. I think we are at least on all of the download sites listed here now.
