I updated my todo list for the next game today. I'm definitely still in the phase where my todo list just gets longer and longer.

I added slippery and sticky blocks to the next game today. Ice and tar are the first of each, but there will probably be more.

I've run into an interesting decision for the next game. What happens when you start a level 100 world, the starting area is a forest, and you start mining? Is it basic level 1 dirt? Do basic blocks scale with the world level? Or are there several dirts with different names?

What game designers research is sometimes strange. The last couple days I've basically been researching dirt. Yes, dirt! Last week I was working on ways to kill the player. This week I'm working on dirt.

I added a bunch of dirt, mud, clay, sand, snow, and slush blocks to the next game today.

Kind of funny you mention dirt. For my fantasy writings, I had to lookup the same thing and I found it pretty surprising how hard it was to actually find a straightforward conclusive definition of the layers of the earth from topsoil to bedrock. Really interesting stuff, lol.

Also, I do hope I can harvest some ridiculously excessively named dirt in the next game, like 'Shadow's Divine Soil of the Forgotten Plane".

Can't wait to see how these systems play out!

Yeah, while researching I was looking for names of different dirt but couldn't find any. I finally did find out that there are around 30 classifications of dirt and even found some government pdf about dirt classifications that was 886 pages long.

Basically at the end I found WAY more information than I thought I would, but found almost nothing helpful to what I wanted.

I added arctic, swamp, quarry, inferno, and wastelands (toxic) biomes to the next game today.

I added a bunch of different types of stone to the next game today (sandstone, marble, granite, gneiss, etc).

Today I added several dangerous blocks to the next game that when you mine them you get a base block and some liquid leaks out. The safest version of this is tar which results in clay (that you can pick up) and oil (on the ground).
