Default Where did you hear about Soldak?

Someone mentioned that the retail Depths of Peril is selling well at some kind of military store (I forget the exact words), and it's led me to wonder where you guys first heard about Soldak and first picked up the game (if you have)? Anyone?

I'll start:

I first heard of Soldak when Steven said he'd like to make his own rpg games when he retired. At the time, we didn't know about looming problems at work. When he was unhappy, I said the only reason to be in the gaming industry vs. other places like Nortel where he'd make 3 times the cash, is because he was happy. It just didn't make sense. Even though we didn't have enough money to retire, I suggested he go ahead and make video games, naively thinking he'd be make to his old salary in a year or two. Ha!

Anyway, it's been one crazy ride, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Or even a computer that can play the Sims 3.

My first game was Depths of Peril, which Steven put on my computer and said, "Playtest that." Yep. I was pre-alpha! Which isn't as fun as it sounds. The game is loads better after balancing and killing bugs. Bugs make me cry.

I heard of Din's curse from another user on another gaming forum.
Plus, I am a huge ARPG fan and an avid indy developer supporter!

Yes, the gaming industry is very profitable these days.

I suspect most of our forum peeps heard about Soldak on other forums. Word of mouth seems to be Soldak's primary advertising outlet, and you can't play what you've never heard about.

I heard about Din's Curse in another forum, Basilisk Games to be exact. When the beta was announced.

There is a subject heading to talk about other rpg games for PC and Mac and Linux.

I originally read a review of DoP on RPGWatch, and the blend of Civ and Diablo was enough to lead me to try out the demo. I bought the game within a few days (and three max level demo characters)...

Word of mouth (or word of keyboard?) seems to really help out the indies a lot, though a lack of DRM and excellent communication between devs and their customers help too.

Same here. Bought Depths of Peril after toying around with the demo for a few weeks.
