The corollary to that is that with a skill tree, only the skills in the tree compete with each other. With items, they all compete with each other, so if certain items dominate, all players will use just those items.

Very true. You have to find those items though and while they are still useful.

Heh! My step-sister lives in Texas and would agree with you. California's kinda big too, especially if you have to drive from the northern end down to San Diego!

I fixed races being big babies. If one of their planets or ships was hit by an asteroid, they would get upset and declare war on the player.
