I agree with Bluddy's sentiment that it might be more tasteful for Soldak to do something like a narration video instead of a big whiz-bang production (at least in this stage of development). Given the simplistic nature of the stories in Soldak games, it'd be much better to focus on the gamplay (Soldak's strong suit) using a dev narration than to try and set up some cool cut scene interspersed with quotations about how you can blast aliens to bits.

That said, the more screen shots (which are easier) the merrier.

testing Drox Operative - found out how the Dryads lived though my sneak attack, a bug was giving then 60% regen/sec, making them invincible

testing Drox Operative - formed a non-aggression pact with one of the races, almost immediately I had another race demanding I end the pact

Here's a good example of the type of video I'm thinking about. This one happens to be for Cliffski's new game. I wasn't that excited about it before I saw the video, but a video really does a great job of making you anticipate a game.

Yes, that's a nice video that really demonstrates the gameplay and features. It would be great if we could do something similar for Drox. We'll have to think about how to do something like that effectively as our game takes place over a much larger area (multiple systems). We'd probably have to do a lot of segments and piece them together. I do like the designer's comments throughout the video describing features and gameplay. Thanks for posting this, Bluddy.

Sure.

I think the easiest method is for you to record, say 30-40 minutes of gameplay without any commentary, and then edit it down to 8 minutes. Then you can comment on the gameplay easily because you're not distracted by actually playing.

Another advantage to making this kind of video is that it solidifies your youtube content. Right now, this is the most thorough, up to date 'let's play' of DC I could find -- and this guy's video card doesn't even filter the ground tiles so it looks pretty bad... When you've got a smallish audience, the chances of someone making good quality youtube videos of your games go down. But you can make the video yourselves, and get to show off elements of the game exactly the way you want to.
