Default DoP beta patch 1.016 & new price

We have let it slip that DoP 2 is not our next game so as a consolation prize we have released beta patch 1.016 with some major graphics changes and lowered the price of Depths of Peril to $14.99!

You can buy DoP here.

Beta Patch 1.016 of Depths of Peril is available over on the Depths of Peril patch page. Changes can be read here. This is a pretty major patch with a new perspective view mode, a new advanced shadows option, better widescreen UI, and has a bunch of fixes.

Awesome patch shadow, you never cease to amaze me. This will be good for dop. I have a few questions.

1) This is mostlikely the last patch for dop?

2) If there is another patch, will the recruits crazy damage fix ever see the light of day?

Thank you so much for this. I get the sense that this one really was for the dedicated fans. It's a really great patch.

1) I don't know.
2) I actually looked at that a little, but I'm not sure what to do about it. I did stick it back on the DoP todo list so I'll look at it again assuming there is another patch.

I just thought of it and it might be better to just save it for dop2. That way we have an awesome sequel

I'm waiting for BMT right now. When I download DoP today, will it already have the patch?

No the BMT version hasn't been updated yet. You will need to download and apply the beta patch yourself.

Thanks! Finally I can play in fullscreen in widescreen mode!

Here's a 2560x1440 screen just to show off (6.4 MB png)

PS: I did turn off perspective as I believe it looks really weird, more so than in Din's Curse, not sure why. In Depths of Peril I love the big messy fights, so I increased the max zoom option and play in 2D. I've said it a zillion times but I'll say it again, while I do enjoy the dungeons in DoP I love even more the balance of outdoor and indoor environments that is missing from Din's Curse. And let's face it: the town looks much nicer in DoP.

I agree. I think DoP was designed for isometric perspective and it shows. When viewed in isometric perspective, Jorvik is quite picturesque. Isometric mode is like a painting or wallpaper -- it really highlights the choice of colors, the textures, and the general artistic cohesion. Perspective mode is more realistic, but it highlights the poor 3D models in DoP. Suddenly Jorvik isn't so beautiful and you notice the low polygon count of the models.

DC doesn't have so much artistic cohesion (IMHO). Though I personally like the way it looks, the randomness of the towns and dungeons generates landscapes that aren't that impressive, or at the very least are monotonous. In this case, isometric view has no benefit while perspective view gives you the added feeling of exploring the dungeon from up close.
