Default Beta patch 1.008 available

Beta patch 1.008 is now available over on the Depths of Peril patch page and you can see the list of changes here. This patch fixes a lot of typos and localization issues, a few of bugs, but more importantly adds a hardcore mode.

I assume if you die in hardcore mode, its game over?

Some good tweaks there Shadow. I notice I won't be able to kill revenge seeking ghosts with traps any more.

One thing; have you nailed down the cause of the access violations yet? I still get the occasional one when gating back to my house, usually from the player gate.

I did fix another crash. I'm not sure that I have fixed any crashes that would be related to gating in this patch though.

Hardcore is explained in the game some, but basically death is permanent for your character and there is no shared stash access. Unlike other games, your character isn't deleted though. You can still log in with the character, look at your items, look at your stats, export your character, etc. You just can't resurrect.

The export indicates that the character was hardcore, I presume?

I'll definitely be giving this a good eyeballing. As soon as I can get Symfony back up and working! <grumble>

Yes, the export says hardcore in the character's title.

Default Enhancement request

If possible, could we have a 'vanilla' option?
A simple checkbox option for new characters that would cause the game to ignore mod files and just use the asset zips. Similar to hardcore, it would permanently affect the character and could only be aplied to a new character. It may not be possible, of course, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

It should be possible. just reverse the order it checks files in, so it would look for a file in zip 001 instead of loose files first

EDIT: also, i've had an access violation with it.

It is certainly possible to restrict the file loading in that manner, but not to do it for a specific character. The file system is already up and running and could have loaded many mod files before the character is ever loaded. This is especially true if you were to switch back and forth between a character meant for mods and a character that was not meant for mods.

Which is what I sort of expected, and why I thought it would be hard to do on a character basis. Now problem.
